Day 88- Pretend this is a witty title

Nothing really witty today title-wise. I hate being a bore, but we had a good, average day today.

In reading we introduced new vocabulary and read our story of the week, The Kite. The story is about a family who experiences the ups and down of kite building, and kite losing. In the end, they adopt a stray kitten. It's not War and Peace, but I'm sure some child out there in the world appreciates its nuance.

I have great news!!! I now have 7 out of 17 of my students Progress Monitored for Fountas and Pinnell! Being as these tests take F.O.R.E.V.E.R, we're doing very well! I hope to have everyone tested by the end of the week. So far, everyone I've tested has improved! This soldier improved by 3 levels!

In math we worked more on groups of 10 with extras. To spice things up a little, we added another element- money! We got out the dimes and pennies and my students practiced making numbers. I was happily impressed with their grasp of the 10s and 1s skill! I'm feeling a game tomorrow!

In science we sorted pieces of solid matter by describing their properties. Of course it was the end of the day, my students were a little stir-crazy from not being able to go outside for the past 3 days, and I needed something that would grab their interest. The solid matter I chose?

There were some other types of as well. Here are some words we came up with.

Some of the kids didn't like the candy they chose. (They closed their eyes, reached into a bag, and had to describe what they chose whether they liked it or not.)
