Day 96- Vocabulary frenzy

Usually Mondays are reserved as vocabulary days, but since I was out yesterday the task of learning new vocabulary fell on today. We started with reading vocabulary. We listed the new words on the board and came up with definitions ourselves.

Barn- where animals live
Dancing- moving to music
Elephant- animal, gray with big ears and a long trunk
Laying- making eggs
Marched- walk together with a beat
Mercy- a word used to show excitement
Mouse- small animal with fur and a long tail
Tangled- twisted together

Tonight I made a definition and picture page. Tomorrow students will cut and paste the definitions and pictures onto index cards to make flash cards. If you would like a copy of the page, you can download it {HERE}. I found the pictures in ClipArt.

In science, we folded blank white paper into an 8- square, wrote one vocabulary word per square, and created pictures as helpers. Instant flash cards! We will have a test over the vocabulary on Friday. Here is a review Power Point to use! The pictures came form ClipArt.

We worked on Similes and Metaphors today. We started by watching this video:

Then we practiced by working on finding similes in this poem. (Written by a student, found on the Internet) We circled the 'like' or 'as' that told us that it was a simile, and underlined the words that were being compared.

Even though I know it was a brilliantly sunny day today, the playground was still muddy and gross, so recess was inside again. Unfortunately, it is supposed to rain again tomorrow. :(

The prospect of indoor recess doesn't hinder this guy!
