Day 92- Red rover! Red rover!

Does anyone remember that game? I played it at recess as a kid. You link arms with your team and call someone from the other team over. If that person can break your bond, their team wins, but if they can't break the bond, they have to join your team. I loved that game!

Our science experiment today reminded me of this game. Check out this video of what we did in class today. (I was trying not to laugh the whole time. Ms. Waddell was filming and she couldn't keep a straight face!)

As it turns out, when we did this in class the surface tension of the water held 8 paperclips before they all sank. I used tweezers instead of my fingers to drop the clips. When Mr. Russell did this with his students, he said the entire surface of the water was covered! Next time, I'm filming his experiments since they seem to go better than mine!

Surface Tension- How tightly water molecules are bonded at the surface.

In the picture, you can see some of the clips sank (which was my fault for not using the tweezers!) and some were held up by the water.

We worked some more on verbs. Today we focused on -ing endings. Students had to use verbs to fill in I can... and I am... sentences.

Students then took what we practiced and put them in sentences along with illustrations.

Here are pictures from literacy centers today. Since we didn't get to do centers on Friday, I didn't change anything. I hate wasting copies!

 Buddy reading/ Story map

 Poetry/ Fluency

Spelling texters/ Word Wall

 Noun Town/ Word Work

Once again we had recess inside due to rain. It wasn't raining today, but it rained so much yesterday that our parking lot was still flooded this morning. Too wet to go outside. I'm hoping tomorrow will be better! My students are going stir-crazy!

My students are so creative!

** Tomorrow I will be in a math Professional Development for half the day. I'll let you know how much I learn! My soldiers will be in good hands until I get them after lunch!**
