BIG PLANS- VP of Program Management at UNUM
On Tuesday we had our Martin Luther King Jr Celebration. Dignitaries from Hamilton County came to participate. One of our dignitaries was Mrs. Monique Berke, wife of Tennessee Senator Andy Berke, and
vice president of Enterprise Program Management at Unum.
SinceI'm not one to let visitors escape my clutches.... we love visitors, we asked Mrs. Berke if she would mind being interviewed for our BIG PLANS segment, and she agreed! Who could resist my cute kids?

Angles and Polygons
Just a quick update on what we have been working on in math. We have actually already tested over this unit, I just haven't posted about it yet!
Looking at polygons- number of sides and vertices match!
Looking at angles:
Acute angle- an angle less than 90 degrees
Obtuse angle- an angle greater than 90 degrees
Right angle- an angle measuring 90 degrees at it's vertex.
A ray- a line that has endpoint and goes on forever at the other end. In this picture, his elbow is the endpoint and this fingers go on forever.

Martin Luther King Jr Celebration
In memory of Dr. King's dream for a better, fairer world, we at Clifton Hills participated in a MLK Celebration today. Every student was asked to sign a pledge on our Wall of Tolerance to work on one of these 3 things: Self- Discipline, Respect, or Acceptance. Teachers were also asked to sign for one of the 3 topics.
Most grades also did week-long studies of Dr. King's life and his accomplishments. Here is what 3rd grade did!
Here's Ms. Gabriella introducing Mrs. Berke. Click {HERE} to listed to her story, or watch it below!
But Mrs. Berke wasn't the only guest today!
We took the time to celebrate one of our unsung heroes here at the Hills. Officer Ratliff was recognized today for her quiet leadership as our crossing guard.
Officer Ratliff is dedicated, hardworking, and completely devoted to the safety of our students. She is wonderful with parents, students and teachers alike. Never has she had to raise her voice to make her intentions clear. She is an asset to the school and we are blessed to have her!
Our school's dance team and our 5th grade chorus performed a song with Mrs. Blowe. Click {HERE} to see it or watch it below!
Our time together ended with a recognition of the pledges we made individually and as a school.
Our thanks to everyone who participated! Other esteemed visitors included Karen Hollis from HCDE, Councilman Manuel Rico, and members of Hamilton County's police dept.
General Delk's boards: MLK Bio Poem, Pledge posters
Ms. Chastain's Bio Poem, nonfiction 4-square
Ms. Roach's Dr. King adjectives, KWL chart, Bio Poem
At the end of the day, grades 3-5 met together for an assembly to celebrate what we have done to remember Dr. King's legacy. I didn't get pictures and video of everything (I couldn't be all over the gymand leave my kids!) but here is what I have!
Mrs. Monique Berke, wife of Tennessee state senator Andy Berke and VP of Investment Operations at Unum, was a speaker about the importance of education. You'll never guess what she was willing to do to make sure she got her higher education! :)
Here is Mrs. Berke sharing her story! (sorry about the quality of video, I was pretty far away)

I hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday! I'm going to be rushing to get the rest of the book posted! Here is chapter 10, brought to you by Mrs. Smith.
Side note here- the camera was about to die, so I refused to let her stop. I'm mean like that. Thanks for being a trooper, Smith!
