Yesterday, during a reading professional development, Mr. Evans asked Mr. Russell, Ms. Leahy, and myself to record one of our lessons today. No problem, Mr. Evans!
My lesson was on fact and opinion, Ms. Leahy's was a math lesson, and Mr. Russell's was a writing lesson. Mr. Evans is going to use our videos in a presentation he will be presenting to the county later this month.
Do you know what this means? Our students are going to be famous! (Or, more famous. My students are convinced they are superstars!)

In math we worked on adding 3 digit numbers. Of course that was too simplistic for my students. Why would we want to merely add 3+2+6, when we can turn it into (3+2)+6, or 3+(2+6)?
We in General Delk's Army laugh in the face of simple addition!
We want a challenge! We want to stretch our mathematical minds! We want... Algebra!
We worked on the A.D.A. steps first. (Add, Drop, Add) After solving the problems, we went back and added our (parenthesis) and created our Algebraic equations. We proved our answers by using the Associative Property to check.

We worked on our Fact and Opinion activity during center time, but students had their center boxes at their tables in case they finished the activity and needed something else to do. So, not every center was pictured.

This afternoon we used our great knowledge of butterflies and created informational texts.
Butterfly booklets. We created butterfly booklets.
We used illustrations from Ms. Payton and wrote one sentence for each stage of the butterfly's life cycle.
Some of my students wanted to share their brilliance, so here are videos from when I conferenced with them. We will work on editing tomorrow.

The first video we made, she was in the middle of reading, found and error, and ran off. I probably should have kept it, it was cute!
