Day 103- The importance of Vitamin D

My students need sunshine. In order for my students to get sunshine, the playground needs to be cleaned. In order for the playground to be cleaned, it's going to take an act of God. Unfortunately, the whole 'separation of church and state' thing keeps God from being able to act, so we are having to wait for the County to help us out.
*HEAVE A HUGE SIGH*

It has been over a month since our students have been able to play on the playground because it keeps raining, and flooding. If you don't believe what we have to deal with when it rains, check out {THIS} post.

Still, the fact remains, the students are going stir-crazy and it's beginning to wear on everyone's nerves.

First things first, we checked if the groundhog saw his shadow, and even created a new post in class. {HERE} My students get the biggest kick out of writing blogs in class! "Mrs. Delk, don't forget to add this part!" They tend to complain that I don't type fast enough.

In math we worked on putting numbers in order from least to greatest, and greatest to least. Tomorrow I plan on having us review with a game, as well as a 100th Day activity.

We combined reading and writing today. Our story for the week is about animals in the rainforest. We watched a BrinPop Jr. video (the one from yesterday) to jog some memories, then we made a chart using our 5 Senses.

After creating the chart, my students were to create sentences using the chart as a reference. Tomorrow we will write the sentences again, adding onomatopoeia and adjectives.

I will see a boa. I will see the rain. I will see a insects. I will see a snakes. I will see a monkey.

I can see a boa. I want to touch a boa. I can eat a bug. I can hear a bird. I can smell a snake.

I can see a worms in the rainforest. I hear snakes in the rainforest. I smell bugs in the rainforest. I taste plants in the rainforest. I touch trees in the rainforest.

I can touch a lion. I can smell a butterfly. I can taste a monkeys. I can see a butterflies. I can hear a katydid.

(I love my soldier's inventiveness! Turned that 'm' into a 'w'!)

But, I'm betting you're wondering why I'm lamenting my students missing out on their sunny vitamin 'D'. It's not just that I feel that my students need fresh air, but their behavior is starting to... not be pretty. Today we had to walk laps around the gym instead of playing with basketballs to get our energy out. It wasn't fun.

On the plus side, it's our 100th Day Celebration tomorrow!! I sent a baggie home with each student so they would have something to put their 100 objects in. Objects need to be small, but feel free to be creative.

I'm all a-twitter! I have some fun things planned, so don't be late!
